FOIA Request to Calhoun County Election Division Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.
The Battle Creek Times, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, has sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Calhoun County Election Division in Michigan. The request seeks detailed information about all candidates running for the upcoming spring election.
We at the Battle Creek Times are requesting a list of all candidates that includes their first, middle, and last names; the office they are running for; jurisdiction of the office; and party affiliation. In addition, we are seeking all contact information for each candidate, including their address, phone number, and email address.
As members of the media involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.
