3/24/2023 UPDATE: The suspect in this case has been identified as 22-year-old Jamon Taylor. He was arraigned yesterday, Thursday, March 23, in Calhoun County court on the charge of attempted murder and remains in jail.

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — Battle Creek Police arrested a 22-year-old man following an attempted shooting Wednesday, March 22.

Police responded to a report of an attempted shooting around 7 p.m. in the 200 block of Graves Avenue. After arriving on scene, officers discovered the suspect had attempted to shoot a 26-year-old man, during a confrontation between the two.

The 26-year-old victim was not struck by any gunfire and had fled to his home. Police located the suspect and recovered the weapon, a Glock 9mm pistol, along with 12 shell casings at the scene.

The suspect was the caller who reported the attempted shooting, and he claimed the shooting happened in self-defense. Police said the suspect and the victim are cousins, and seemed to have an ongoing issue with each other.

Following his arrest, the suspect was lodged at the Calhoun County Jail.
