BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — The city applauds the following staff for earning noteworthy recognitions during the past summer.
City Engineer Jarret T. Geering earned the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Associate credential from Green Business Certification, Inc. This means he possesses knowledge in the area of green building practices, as well as how to support others working on LEED projects that aim to save energy, use fewer resources, reduce pollution, and contribute to healthier environments for the community.
As City Engineer, Geering’s LEED certification will help to ensure that future engineering projects are evaluated for environmental improvements, future Department of Public Works policies will consider environmental concerns, as well as aid fellow city departments working on projects and improvements to help make Battle Creek more environmentally friendly.
The process of earning the LEED certification included Geering spending time over the last year studying reference materials provided by the U.S. Green Building Council, as well as researching examples of green building projects throughout Michigan and across the country. This culminated in a 100-question, two-hour exam that required a passing score of 85 percent or better.
Aviation Director Philip S. Kroll received the Accredited Airport Executive (AAE) credential from the American Association of Airport Executives. This accreditation is based on the recipient’s knowledge of airport management, business administration, and general transportation economics.
Kroll’s achievement in earning the AAE credential affirms his experience managing a public airport, most recently Battle Creek Executive Airport, as well as meeting the criteria of knowledge required.
To qualify for the AAE credential, Kroll successfully completed three phases of the accreditation process, including passing a 180-question exam, completing a writing requirement, and interviewing before a panel of fellow AAE-credentialed members.
The city’s Fleet Services team received the accolade of 2022 Notable Fleet, for its accomplishments and efforts, during the Government Fleet Expo and Conference on May 23, 2022.
Fleets are judged based upon leadership with staff, with customers, and within the community; staying efficient and competitive; overcoming challenges; and having a vision and direction.
The city’s Fleet Services Division repairs and maintains hundreds of vehicles and more, from chain saws to fire engines, and fabricates pieces to meet the city’s needs.
