Other information: The Battle Creek Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 189 Bryant St. with a confirmed resident trapped on the second floor, at 5:40 p.m. Engine 2 and Car 3 arrived to find heavy fire coming from the first-floor living room. Engine 2 immediately placed a ladder to the second floor and found the homeowner unresponsive; they rescued her out the window and down the extension ladder. Truck 1 arrived to handle fire control to aid in the rescue. Truck 1 performed a primary search on the first floor, while Squad 2 arrived to search the second floor. Rescue 3 provided a water supply and then rode to the hospital to provide EMS to the rescued homeowner. Engine 5 was assigned to the Rapid Intervention Crew initially, and then provided additional support to the search teams. Rescue 6 and Squad 6 performed the duties of Safety Officer, RIC, salvage and overhaul, utilities and ventilation. The homeowner was rescued successfully, and resuscitated, due to the outstanding and coordinated work from the men and women of the Battle Creek Fire Department. Ms. Tolf is in critical condition. Homeowner also had her bedroom door shut which slowed the progress of fire and smoke. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time and is under investigation with the Fire Marshal.
