State officials have announced that there will be further constraints on residents regarding lockdowns and regulations, but the Mackinac Center for Public Policy is calling on Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and other state officials to remove government impediments so that hospitals can fight COVID-19 unhindered.

This includes legislation that rolls back regulations on hospitals and their staffs to enable them to better fight the increase in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations.

This comes after the backlash the governor received over the last wave of regulations and executive orders, the Wall Street Journal reported back in April, soon after the pandemic started.

"The focus in Michigan has been on limiting what citizens can do. But there is something else that government can do -- get out of the way," said Lindsay Killen, vice president for strategic outreach & communications at the Mackinac Center, according to its website. "Earlier this year, Gov. Whitmer smartly rolled back 'Certificate of Need' regulations on medical providers and licensing rules on workers. The state should suspend laws that limit hospitals and workers to help Michigan fight the virus."
