Albion College Athletics issued the following announcement.
Albion Athletics has announced the hiring of Karlo Delos Angeles as the Director of Esports. The Albion Esports program will be a coed team that is set to begin competition in the 2021-22 school year.
Delos Angeles has experience as the assistant Esports coach at Davenport University and as an Overwatch team manager at Western Michigan University. During his time with Davenport, he managed the Smash Bros. team, set up scrimmages and was responsible for recruiting. He was also the co-founder and head coach of the Esports team at Kalamazoo Central High School.
"I am proud and humbled to represent Albion College as the inaugural Director of Esports," said Delos Angeles. "Through the support of the college and the community, I am excited to work with Director of Athletics, Matt Arend, to create and coach a program that will not only live up to the expectations of the college, but to also work towards diversity and inclusiveness to the team and community as a whole."
Delos Angeles brings a background as a mental health coach and streamer for Aura Gaming and Ice Storm Gaming. He is also an Esports commentator for Aura Gaming.
"During the interview process, Karlo clearly articulated a vision for creating a competitive Esports program on our campus," said Director of Athletics, Matt Arend. "Additionally, Karlo has strong ties within the collegiate and high school Esports communities within the state of Michigan. Karlo has creative ideas on how to integrate Esports into the campus and greater Albion community and I look forward to supporting him in these initiatives. I am excited for the future of Esports on our campus under Karlo's leadership."
Delos Angeles earned his Bachelor of Science from Central Michigan University in December 2016.
Delos Angeles's tenure with the Britons is set to begin on Monday, November 16.
