CALHOUN COUNTY TAX ASSESSOR: Countywide electronics/Styrofoam collection

Jpegll

Calhoun County Tax Assessor  issued the following announcement on Aug 24

The City of Battle Creek and Calhoun County are, once again, holding a recycling event to collect electronics and Styrofoam No. 6.

This event is free for those living within Calhoun County, and is an effort to encourage neighbors to dispose of these items in responsible ways, keeping them out of landfills. These items cannot be placed in the city’s curbside recycling containers.

We will accept the following items:

Electronics: Computers (including laptops), LCD and CRT monitors, printers, wires and cords, computer peripherals, copy and fax machines, audio and visual equipment, plasma/LCD/tube TVs, game consoles, stereo equipment, lamps, small kitchen appliances, car and household batteries, other items with a cord

This collection is for residential electronic waste only, and fees will apply to a large amount of material brought to the collection without proper notice. Anyone with a large quantity of electronics should contact an electronics company directly for proper disposal.

Styrofoam No. 6: Cups, plates, meat trays, to-go containers, coolers, egg cartons, No. 6 packing materials

This particular Styrofoam is polystyrene. It typically is embossed with the number 6, and typically is used in the materials listed. Foam packing peanuts and construction foam cannot be accepted. All Styrofoam items must be clean.

We also are seeking approximately 10 volunteers to help the electronics vendor at this event. Volunteers play an important role in keeping these recycling events free to our neighbors. Refreshments will be provided. If you can help, contact Lizzy Paul, the city’s environmental program coordinator, at 269-966-3355 ext. 1889 or egpaul@battlecreekmi.gov.
