City Commission meeting date changes around election

The City Commission approved changing their second November meeting and their organizational meeting, due to the certification schedule for the Nov. 8 election.

Calhoun County officials must give the State of Michigan our city election results by Nov. 23, and the state will certify those results on Nov. 28, making them official.

The commission cannot hold its organizational meeting and swear in commissioners for the new term until after that certification. To meet that timeline, the upcoming commission meetings are:

  • Nov. 15, 7 p.m. – a change from the previously-approved date, and the typical third-Tuesday meeting
  • Dec. 6 – organizational meeting with swearing in of commissioners; starts at 7:30 p.m., with the regular meeting following
The commission approved the date changes at their Oct. 18 regular meeting. They will approve their meeting schedule for the coming year at the Dec. 6 organizational meeting.

Join our commission meetings at City Hall, 10 N. Division St., or watch live on AccessVision cable channels or online at accessvision.tv, or on the city’s YouTube channel, @CityofBattleCreekMichigan.

City Commission agendas typically are posted the Thursday before a meeting. Visit battlecreekmi.gov and navigate to Your Government – Mayor & Commission – Agendas, Minutes & Videos.

Please remember to vote on Nov. 8! All city commission seats and the mayor are on the City of Battle Creek ballot, as well as a variety of other local and state seats, and proposals. Polls are open 7 a.m.-8 p.m.

The City Clerk’s Office at City Hall is open extra hours of 8 a.m.-4 p.m. this Saturday, Nov. 5. Stop in to vote an absentee ballot or register to vote. Remember that any voter in Michigan can vote absentee. Get more information at battlecreekmi.gov/elections and Michigan.gov/vote.
