The Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA) 120-inch water transmission main has returned to service. This past Friday, September 30, the City of Flint Department of Public Works began the process of flushing and testing to prepare for the transition back to the city’s normal blend of 95% GLWA and 5% Genesee County Drain Commission (GCDC).
This process includes flushing stale water from the city’s 12.6-mile-long transmission main and testing the water quality as fresh water begins to flow through the main.
No GLWA water will be distributed into the Flint system until testing shows it meets regulatory standards. This testing process is ongoing and will take several more days to complete.
The City of Flint will give 24 hours’ notice of the imminent transition back to a 95% GLWA and 5% GCDC blend.
