The Battle Creek Fire Department invites our community to its seventh Fire Prevention Week open house, set for 2-4 p.m. this Saturday, Oct. 15.
We invite everyone this year to Station 1, at 195 E. Michigan Ave., near City Hall. Enjoy hot dogs, games, station tours, our fire equipment, and prize drawings.
Our annual open house event caps national Fire Prevention Week, Oct. 9-15, the National Fire Protection Association’s educational campaign held every October. The NFPA celebrates 100 years of Fire Prevention Week this year, with the theme, “Fire won’t wait. Plan your escape.”
Homes today burn faster than ever. Families may have only two minutes – or less – to safely escape a home fire after the smoke alarm sounds. Make sure everyone in your home knows two ways to get out in case of a fire, and knows where your designated meeting place is. Be sure to practice so you’re ready in an emergency.
As always, city fire crews will visit Battle Creek and Lakeview kindergarten classes throughout the week to educate students about these issues, and help them feel comfortable with firefighters, especially when they’re in full gear. Please ask your kindergartners about this visit!
We hope you will join us on Saturday to learn more, and meet our great Fire Department team!
