Water valve replacement beginning Thursday

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — City crews will be replacing broken water valves, which will require temporary water shutoffs and a road closure beginning Thursday, July 14.

This work will require temporary water shutoffs from 10 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., on Capital Ave. S.W., between Langley Road and Wahwahtaysee Way.

City neighbors in this area should be prepared to be without water and for a potential boil water advisory when service returns. Additional information will be made available to the media, and through the city’s website and social media, should it become necessary.

Door hangers will be distributed to the homes affected.

During this work, Capital Avenue S.W., between Minges Road and Beckley Road, will be closed in both directions to through traffic and emergency vehicles from July 14 at 9 pm through July 15 at 2 pm.  A detour will be in place.  A map of the detour is attached to this release.

Motorist are advised to avoid this area and follow all posted detour signs.

Due to this road closure, Transit 4S - SW Capital Route will detour on Friday, July 15.

Heading outbound the 4S bus will turn left on Meadow Drive, right on Riverside Drive, right on Beckley Road, and left on SW Capital to resume regular route. During this temporary detour, the following bus stops will not be serviced.

Outbound

Cascade Drive

 County Club Blvd

 Francis Drive

 Minges Road

 Hamilton Lane

 Christy Road

 Old China Buffet

Inbound

Beckley Road at Capital Ave SW

 Red Lobster

 Christy Road

 Hamilton Lane

 Minges Road

Oakland Drive

 Francis Drive

 Country Club Blvd

Passengers who normally use these stops should expect to use the bus stop(s) located at Panera or Meadow Drive. The Fazoli's bus stop located on Beckley Road will be serviced heading outbound (:30 after each hour) not on the inbound trip. Also, the Beckley Road at SW Capital Avenue bus stop will not be serviced due to the bus turning left on SW Capital. Customers who use this stop should plan to be at Panera at :30 after each hour.

The regular route will resume once the road is back open.

We appreciate everyone’s patience during this work.
