City of Marshall issued the following announcement.
The City of Marshall is pleased to announce that Eaton has donated a 1.6-acre parcel to the City. The parcel is immediately adjacent to the city Athletic Field Complex, located at the corner of Hanover and Fountain Streets. The parcel was formerly a parking lot for the former Eaton facility, which used to be across Hanover Street.
“The City of Marshall appreciates the generous donation and continued support of the Marshall Community from Eaton,” stated Mayor Joe Caron. “Eaton has been a strong community partner and the City is extremely grateful for this support. This donation will allow the City to continue to improve the Athletic Field Complex and provide the amenities desired by the residents of Marshall.”
“At Eaton, we are committed to improving quality of life, and this includes making a difference in the communities where we operate,” said Karl Sievertsen, vice president and chief technology officer, Eaton’s Vehicle Group. “I’ve been a Marshall resident for more than 20 years, and many of our employees also live and work in this community – it’s an honor to support the City in the expansion of this recreational area that will be utilized and enjoyed for years to come.”
"City staff adn the Parks, Recreation, and Cemetery committee have developed a redevelopment plan that will be considered by Council in 2021," said City Manager Tom Tarkiewicz. "The conceptual plan includes the construction of pickle ball courts, a splash pad, bathroom facilities, and basketball courts. The proposed plans include some of the most desired amenities as identified by our residents."
The City is working on finalizing the plan for the redevelopment of the property and will begin grant writing and fund raising to complete the redevelopment of the site. Anyone interested in assisting in the redevelopment of the site should contact Eric Zuzga, Director of Special Projects, at 269-558-0354 or ezuzga@cityofmarshall.com.
