ALBION COLLEGE ATHLETICS: Britons Finish Third at Aquinas

Albion College Athletics issued the following announcement.

Earlier in the day, the Brits sent a couple of women to compete at GVSU's big meet. 

Megan McColluch and Kenna Childress turned in real good personal best performances. 

Megan completed the 5000m in 18:55.57. Not only was it a personal best but also the 5th best time in Albion College history. 

Keena completed her 5000m run in 19:31.14 which was also a personal best.

At Aquinas College, Sam Bieth was a distance stand out, finishing 2nd in the Mile with a personal best time of 5:38.49. 

Peyton Brooks had a strong start to her season, finishing 9th.

Continuing on the track, the Briton sprinters earned 44 points. Layla Wilks led the way with 16 points. She placed 4th in the 60m dash and 2nd in the 200m dash. 

The lady Britons went 2,5,6 and 8th in the 200m dash. With Wilks, Chalara Sutton earning season's bests, and Lexi McGinley and Emily Kinser earning personal best. 

These personal bests are 5th and 8th on the Albion College All-time list.

In the field, the lady Britons tallied 56.5 points. ShaQouria Thompson led the way with 19 points. 

She started her evening, tossing a school-record throw in the weight throw. Her toss was 16.69m (54' 9.25"), a school record, and placer her #2 in the Great Lakes region and #19 in the country. She followed that up with a 2nd place finish in the shot put. Lauren McDowell is another Brit who had a great day in multiple events. 

In the field, Lauren placed 4th with a personal best jump of 5.17m (16' 11.5") (#4 all-time @ Albion College). 

On the track, she ran a personal best in the 400m dash (1:03.93). This performance places her at #10 on the Albion College all-time list. 

Cianna Brown joined the all-time list (#5) with a long jump of 5.03m (16' 6").

Overall the Britons finished third to Aquinas and Siena Heights.

Joe and Julie Serra have given a $5 million leadership gift to launch a fundraising initiative to make two dreams a reality at Albion College. 

The first is a newly expanded fitness and student activity facility at the site of the current Dow Recreation and Wellness Center. 

The second is a new or renovated competition facility for the volleyball, men's basketball and women's basketball teams that currently call Kresge Gymnasium home.
