Pennfield Schools welcomed 1,986 students in 2022-23 school year

There were 1,986 students enrolled in Pennfield Schools in the 2022-23 school year, 1.8% less than the previous year, according to the Michigan Department of Education.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 52% of them were boys, and 48% were girls.

Data also shows that most of the students were white, representing 78.8% of the Pennfield Schools total enrollment.

Pennfield Schools covers five schools within Calhoun County with its main office in Battle Creek. Among them, Pennfield Senior High School recorded the highest enrollment of 653 students in the 2022-23 school year.

Overall student enrollment in Michigan remains below pre-pandemic levels, white students experiencing the largest decline at 6.5%.

Academic performance has also suffered, with the state's average NAEP score dropping by 6.5 points and ethnic achievement gaps widening. Black and Hispanic students' average math proficiency dropped by 7% in 2022, to 13.5% and 28.2%, respectively.
