City of Lansing recently issued the following announcement.
Lansing attracts all kinds of ambitious people from across the state and country. Oh — and the world. Luca first came to Michigan as an exchange student from Germany, and decided it was a pretty good place to put down roots. He's lived in Lansing since 2016.
Luca joined the Physician Scientist Training Program at Michigan State University and currently conducts research in immunotoxicology, studying how food additives affect our immune systems. His thirst for knowledge started in his youth. "I was one of those annoying children that kept asking 'Why is that? Why is that? Why is that?'" he says.
Luca has a passion for volunteering, so beyond his research pursuits he works with The Davies Project for Mid-Michigan Children to provide transportation for children and families that need essential healthcare.
Though he moved to Lansing from a different continent, our community felt somewhat familiar to Luca. "I lived in a former coal mining city in Germany, and its work ethic seems very similar to Lansing," he says. "I like cities with working-class roots, and I love the diversity of people in Lansing."
Local nature is another of Luca's favorite things about the area. He got engaged to his fiancée (now wife) at Fenner Nature Center, and he enjoys taking early bird-watching walks with his friend at Hawk Meadow Park. Whether you're coming from across the region or across the globe, there's something for everyone in Lansing.
