City of Litchfield recently issued the following announcement.

City Manager

The City of Litchfield (1,369) is seeking an experienced, creative, thoughtful leader, a strategic thinker, and team member to serve as its new City Manager beginning October 1, 2021. The current City Manager is retiring after fifteen years of service. The ideal City Manager is an individual who will serve the City of Litchfield with pride, be familiar with the region, and have the attributes to lead and manage the organization. The City Manager should be a local government professional with integrity, honesty, and have excellent communication skills; who is open and direct, a team player, enthusiastic, creative, accessible, astute, and responsive. The new City Manager should additionally have skills and experience in fiscal management, economic development, motivating and empowering staff, seeing projects to completion, representing and defending the City’s interests. Significant knowledge of Michigan’s economic development laws and incentives, along with public works, public safety, and administration are important.

This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Business Administration or a related field, and at least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in public sector management. The salary range for this position is commensurate with experience and education.

Set in a rural setting, the City of Litchfield is located in Hillsdale County Michigan and hosts the largest manufacturing park in the county. Public Works Department - Maintenance Specialist I

Salary Range:   $16.57 - $17.82 Per Hour Depending on Qualifications and Experience

The City of Litchfield is seeking a team and service-oriented individual to join its Department of Public Works team. This position, under the supervision of a Department of Public Works Superintendent, performs a variety of duties related to the operation, maintenance and improvements to the City’s facilities and grounds. During the spring & summer this position will be assigned tasks related to but not limited to grass and mowing.  During the winter this position will be assigned tasks related to but not limited to snow plowing, salting, and snow removal. May also be assigned to road maintenance, parks maintenance, building maintenance, property maintenance, sewer system maintenance, water system maintenance and brush & leaf pick-up services during all seasons.

This position performs manual labor tasks and operates a range of light and heavy-duty equipment while following standard safety procedures and regulations. Experience related to one or more of the duties listed above or other manual/skilled labor position is preferred; however, willingness and eagerness to serve the needs of this community is most preferable and instruction is provided for all operations, tools, and equipment. Must be available for both scheduled and emergency after-hours duty in a variety of weather conditions throughout the year.

This full-time position with benefits requires the following minimum qualifications:  Possess an unrestricted Michigan driver’s license with a safe driving record and be able to obtain, or already have, a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), with air brakes, within 60 days from date of hire.  Pass a physical examination and drug/alcohol screening.  Ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule.  Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing and follow written and oral instructions.  Ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely.  Customer service skills.  Exercise respect toward supervisor, co-workers and the general public.

Additionally, to perform the essential functions of job, an individual could be involved in lifting heavy objects, bending, twisting, stooping, walking and standing, for long periods of time during the work shift.

There are opportunities for advancement within the Department of Public Works with pay increases for certification achievements.  The successful candidate must reside within a 20 mile radius of the City of Litchfield city limits.
