Albion College Athletics issued the following announcement on May 31
Marissa Smego has been announced as Albion's new director of sports information. Smego comes most recently from MacMurray College, where she spent the last two years as director of athletics communications.
This Cleveland, Ohio native earned a bachelor's degree in history and sports management from Heidelberg University in 2016, then earned her MBA from Heidelberg in 2018. Upon graduating, Smego spent two years as the sports information assistant at her alma mater.
"I am excited to welcome Marissa to the Albion College Athletics family." Director of Athletics Matt Arend said. "I believe that her experience as both a student-athlete and administrator at the NCAA Division III level has prepared her well to help move Albion Athletics forward as our Director of Sports Information."
While attending undergrad, she worked as a student-assistant with sports information and was a four-year starter on the softball team where her team won two conference tournament championships. In her four-year career, Smego was a two-time all-conference first basemen and the 2015 conference batting champion with a .477 batting average. She set the Heidelberg records for career hits (201), single-season hits (71), and single-season doubles (21).
Smego's first day with the Britons is scheduled for July 1.
