The Michigan Good Food Fund awarded Sprout, a Battle Creek nonprofit food company, the $50,000 Catalytic Investment Award in December.
Sprout BC was one of five Michigan businesses that won the award for its work in increasing the accessibility of healthy foods in the community.
Sprout Box, its subscription service, is one way it makes local produce accessible to consumers. Sproutbc.org introduces Sprout Box as “a customizable box of produce and Michigan-made groceries delivered to your home, workplace, or one of our satellite locations.”
The money from the Catalytic Award will be used to increase Sprout’s reach, such as expanding to downtown Battle Creek.
Sprout’s CEO says the Catalytic Award reflects the work of the employees and the support of the community.
“There’s people who work at Sprout who have made this work," Jeremy Andrews, CEO of Sprout BC, recently told the Battle Creek Enquirer. "There’s a whole community that has supported this idea. I don’t believe there’s any self-made product.”
