Rep. Hall says he has been 'working diligently' to restore funding to programs cut by governor in vetoes

Budget 02

State Rep. Matt Hall (R-Marshall) is leading the charge among House lawmakers fighting to reverse a number of Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s recent budget vetoes.

“The governor went out of her way on a reckless and failed quest to jeopardize funding for some of Michigan’s most-vulnerable populations,” Hall said in a Michigan House Republicans press release.

Chief among the measures the group is hoping to overturn is the governor’s veto of almost $1 billion in legislature-approved funding for K-12 students, public safety, health care, veterans and other vital initiatives. The House will soon vote on the issue of advancing the chamber’s growing attempts to restore most of the statewide funding, which would be a clear rebuke of the governor’s ongoing attempts to enact her proposed 45-cent per gallon gas tax hike.

“People are understandably upset, which is why I have been working diligently to restore funding to several programs the governor cut,” Hall added in the release.

The plan Hall supports also includes the restoration of $35 million in public charter school funding, additional funding for the County Veteran Service Fund and restoring millions in public safety and health care funding.

“These funding cuts should have never happened in the first place,” Hall said in the release. “These programs – all of which Michiganders rely on – are already feeling the brunt of the governor’s politically-motivated budget vetoes. The budget solution I stand behind provides another chance to restore this important funding and get our state back on track.”
