The University of Michigan-Flint has announced a new guaranteed-admission program aimed at transfer students that are seeking to complete their bachelor's degree.
UM-Flint will now offer guaranteed admission – once all qualifications have been satisfied – to all applicants that have already earned either an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree from any regionally accredited college or university.
"This program is all about removing barriers, while emphasizing access, to education," said Lori Vedder, interim vice provost for enrollment management and director of financial aid. "Making this available is just another way, as one of the most affordable public universities in Michigan, that we can expand our inclusive environment for learning."
The change will also put qualified students on a path to have earned both an associate and a bachelor's degree while supporting the state's "Sixty by 30" goal to increase the number of Michiganders with a college degree or professional credential to 60% by the year 2030.
"This change isn't the only route for students to transfer to UM-Flint, but rather an additional path to success that we're very excited about offering," said Joe Vainner, director of admissions and recruitment.
Each year, UM-Flint welcomes more than 500 transfer students to continue their academic journey, while offering a wide range of Merit Scholarships for transfer students. Some scholarships are awarded automatically upon admission, while others require a separate application.
