City of Battle Creek issued the following announcement on Oct 12.
Battle Creek Police responded to a call at 12:18 p.m. today, October 12, about a vehicular collision that occurred at the intersection of Dickman Rd. and SW Capital Ave.
Police said one driver was headed eastbound on Dickman Rd. and disregarded a traffic signal, resulting in a collision with another driver that was headed northbound on SW Capital Ave. The car headed northbound ended up in the Kalamazoo River.
The driver was safely rescued out of the water by nearby civilians. Battle Creek Fire Department was able to successfully use their water equipment to help secure the vehicle out the river.
Area Law Enforcement Underwater Recovery Team (A.L.U.R.T) responded to the scene but were not used.
There were no fatalities and neither driver suffered any life-threatening injuries. The at-fault driver was cited for disregarding a traffic signal and no arrests were made.
