City of Battle Creek issued the following announcement on July 26.

The Department of Public Works has projects planned on Morgan Avenue and Capital Avenue SW this week that will affect traffic.

  • West Morgan Avenue – Closed to through traffic 7 a.m. Monday, July 26 until 4 p.m. Tuesday, July 27, between North Cedar Avenue and North Woodlawn Avenue. Crews will replace a sewer pipe in this area.

  • Capital Avenue SW – Closed to through traffic 7 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, July 28 and 29, between South Hills Drive and Williams Drive. Crews will remove two large trees that have died. The posted detour will use South Hills, Lincoln Hills Drive, and Williams.

Battle Creek Transit’s 4S Capital SW bus route will detour around this tree work using Meadow, Riverside, and Minges, both inbound and outbound. The bus will have to skip stops at Country Club Boulevard, and outbound stops at Minges/Capital. Look for temporary stops at Meadow/Capital SW and Minges/Capital SW for these two days.

For the community’s information, Consumers Energy also has a project downtown this week that requires them to shut off power overnight Tuesday into Wednesday. This will take place from 11 p.m.- 6 a.m. and affect a small number of customers near the corner of Jackson and McCamly streets. Consumers already has notified those customers.

As always, work is weather dependent. We appreciate everyone’s patience as crews complete these projects.
