Unchecked sinusitis can convert into serious complications like meningitis, brain issues or bone infections, which is why it's essential to schedule a visit to a medical professional to receive proper diagnosis and treatment.

Dr. Richard J. Strabbing at Michigan ENT & Allergy Specialists believes in minimally invasive, quick recovery treatment for his patients.

“I really enjoy discussing options with my patients," Dr. Strabbing said. "Balloon and sinus procedures and other minimally invasive sinus procedures done in the office give my patients great options. Quick recovery, super results and life-changing benefits for patients are often seen. It has been exciting to be an ENT over the last few years and be able to offer my patience great solutions with minimal downtime.”

Sometimes antibiotics are used to treat sinusitis, but only if most other options have failed. Overuse of antibiotics has led to the creation of “superbugs”.

"I was one of the forerunners for doing balloon sinuplasty in the upper Midwest," Dr. Strabbing said. "I did my first case March 2007. At that time the first case was still in the operating room. Over time we learn to do this in the office. I personally was one of several sites across the US that pioneered this technology in the office. Since that time I’ve been involved on a national level and refining the anesthesia protocol to make this a pleasant experience for the patient in the office. With my experience, a balloon sinuplasty, I’m able to custom tailor a plan for the patient."

Balloon sinuplasty is a minimally invasive way to possibly help relieve chronic sinusitis.

"First and foremost, sinusplasty is very effective," Dr. Strabbing said. "Studies have shown us that the procedure made sinuses stay open long term upwards of 92% of the time."
