Kellogg Community College issued the following announcement.
Kellogg Community College’s Lifelong Learning Department is offering a comprehensive 50-hour training program to prepare students for certification to work as pharmacy technicians.
The Lifelong Learning Department’s Pharmacy Technician Program with Clinical Externship course will run from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays from Sept. 22 through Nov. 10 on campus at 450 North Ave. in Battle Creek. The full cost of the program is $1,399, which includes all required textbooks and materials.
This course will prepare students to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board’s Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam, certifying successful students to work as a pharmacy technician in a retail or other pharmacy setting. Course content will cover:
- Pharmacy medical terminology
- The history of pharmacy
- The pharmacy practice in multiple environments
- Pharmacy calculations and measurements
- Reading and interpreting prescriptions
- Defining drugs by generic and brand names
- Dosage calculations
- Drug classifications
- The “top 200” drugs
- IV flow rates
- Sterile compounding
- Dose conversions
- Aseptic technique
- The handling of sterile products
- Total parenteral nutrition (TPN)
- Dispensing of prescriptions
- Inventory control
- Billing and reimbursement
