LAKEVIEW HIGH SCHOOL: Return to School Update - July 3

Update

Lakeview High School issued the following announcement.

Dear Lakeview Community,

This week, the Governor released her Return to School plan. It answers many of the questions we have all been wondering about, but there are plenty more questions that now need to be answered by the school district. I am grateful for the clarity and flexibility in the Governor’s plan. Lakeview has had committees working since April to prepare for multiple plans for next year, so we are in a good position to get our plan together.

One of the most important questions has been whether or not we will return to face-to-face instruction next year. The Governor’s plan only requires that we move to online if we are in phase 3, which is where we were earlier this year. Currently, our region is in phase 4 which will allow us to return to face-to face-instruction with restrictions. Phase 5 will be with fewer restrictions and phase 6 is back to pre-COVID operations. That being said, we do have an online virtual academic for any student who would prefer not to return to face-to-face instruction (Lakeview Virtual Academy).

There are two guiding principles that are driving our planning for next year:

  • Keep school safe for all students, staff, and parents
  • Have students in their classrooms, in front of their teachers, as soon as possible and safely
The Governor’s plan allows us to do both. As long as we maintain in phase 4, and don’t move back to phase 3, I am confident that we will have students back in school. That being said, there will be changes to the way we operate in order to keep everyone safe. There is a lot to do in order to be ready for the start of the school year.

I know that the community wants to know the district’s overall plan as soon as possible. We have the recommendations from our committees and the Governor’s plan, so we now need some input from parents and students. At the end of this letter, you will find a link to the parent survey. All our information will be gathered and put into an operational plan that we plan to have available for the community to review in late July. The Board of Education will review and vote to approve the plan on August 3rd (tentative). You will receive ongoing updates, every Friday, regarding where we are in the planning process.

We will need the support of the entire community as we move forward into next year. I am confident in the ability of the Lakeview community to work together to educate our children.

PARENT SURVEY (please complete by Friday, July 10).
