Albion College Athletics issued the following announcement.

The Britons sent a group of distance runners to compete in the 5000m at GVSU.

On the men's side, Alex Harrel ran a personal best time of 16:41.78.

The remainder of the team competed at Aquinas College. At Aquinas, the Britons compete against MIAA rivals Alma College and Calvin University, as well as NAIA opponents Aquinas College and Siena Heights.

Against this very good competition, the Britons finished second (2nd) with a solid showing from all disciplines.

The distance crew accounted for 26 of the Britons points.

They were led by Jayden VanMaurick, who earned 13 points.

He placed 4th in the 1000m run and 7th in the mile run. Overall, VanMaurick (2), Joe Sackel (2), and Paul Sutton (1) earned personal bests on the day.

In the field, the Britons earned 59 points, 1 season's best, four personal bests, and one school record. Marcus Freeman and Kejuan Frazier earned victories in the triple jump and shot put.

Freeman's jump 13.96m (45' 9.75") places him #3 on the Albion College all-time indoor list. Trevor Knowles continued his usual competition day ritual, placing well and earning a lot of points.

He placed 2nd in the long jump and 4th in the high jump. The weight throw may have been the biggest success for the evening. Xavier Aikens led the way, placing 2nd and setting a school record.

He threw 16.58m (54' 4.75"). Harlan Pfefferle placed fifth with a personal-best toss of 15.92m (52' 2.75").

This puts him third on the Albion College all-time list. Kejuan Frazier also threw a personal best with a throw of 14.65m (48' .75"), which places him 4th on the Albion College all-time list.

In the sprints, the Britons racked up 679 points, which was led by first-year, Dason Hollins, and his 16.25 points.

Dason finished 4th in the 60m and 200m dashes with personal bests in both and ran a great leg and the 2nd place 4x400 relay.

The relay ran a season's best time of 3:33.60. Cullen Cox continued his strong season by winning the 400m dash and running on the 4x400 relay. Senior Nate Frieswyk performed well.

He placed 6th in the 60 hurdles and 5th in the 600m run.

Overall the Britons showed a strong competitive spirit against tough competition.

Joe and Julie Serra have given a $5 million leadership gift to launch a fundraising initiative to make two dreams a reality at Albion College.

The first is a newly expanded fitness and student activity facility at the site of the current Dow Recreation and Wellness Center.

The second is a new or renovated competition facility for the volleyball, men's basketball and women's basketball teams that currently call Kresge Gymnasium home.
