Kellogg Community College issued the following announcement on Nov. 13
Kellogg Community College’s fall production of the classic American drama “Our Town” opens this week on campus in Battle Creek.
The three-act play highlights the everyday lives of citizens in the fictional small town of Grover’s Corners, New Hampshire, and won playwright Thornton Wilder the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1938.
KCC is offering six performances of the play this month, at:
7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15
7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16
3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17
7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22
7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23
3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 24
All performances will be held at KCC’s Binda Performing Arts Center, on campus at 450 North Ave. in Battle Creek. Tickets are $5 for KCC students and employees and $10 for the general public, and may be reserved in advance by calling 269-965-4154.
Nearly two dozen actors will appear in the play, which is traditionally performed without a set and with minimal props; KCC’s production will have the audience seated onstage with the actors.
KCC Theatre professor and “Our Town” director Brad Poer said the play is sure to be an “intimate, beautiful and immersive experience for everyone,” with the actors literally surrounded by the audience and extra immersion created via projections and sound effects.
“Our production showcases some serious acting chops from the actors and aims to make the audience feel like they didn’t just see something, but experienced something,” Poer said.
Seating is limited to 70 seats each performance, and reservations are encouraged.
