A kitchen fire broke out at a residence on Lincoln Boulevard in Battle Creek on the evening of December 2. The Battle Creek Fire Department and LifeCare Ambulance responded to the call shortly after 8 p.m.

Upon arrival, Rescue 6, Squad 6, and Car 3 encountered heavy smoke and found that a fire had started on the stove, spreading into the cabinets above. Rescue 6 used a hose line to put out the flames in both areas. Engine 4 discovered that the fire had reached the attic and worked to extinguish any remaining hot spots. Squad 6 and Truck 1 assisted with ventilation and other support tasks.

According to officials, there were no injuries reported as a result of this incident. The fire is believed to have been caused by accidental activation of an electric range burner, which ignited nearby combustible materials.

“Fortunately, there were no injuries reported during this incident. The cause of the fire appeared to be accidental activation of an electric range burner, igniting nearby combustibles,” stated the City of Battle Creek Communications Office.
