The City of Battle Creek announced on Apr. 27 that strong winds and storms have caused downed trees, power lines, and power outages in the area. Residents are being urged to exercise caution as city crews respond to the aftermath.
Officials say that neighbors should report power outages directly to Consumers Energy by calling 800‑477‑5050 or visiting consumersenergy.com. The city also warns residents never to approach or touch a downed power line, advising everyone to stay at least 30 feet away and call or text 911 immediately if they see one.
If traffic signals are out due to the storm, intersections should be treated as all-way stops with extra caution taken by drivers. Any tree blocking a roadway can be reported using the non-emergency line at 269‑781‑0911.
According to city officials, Calhoun County Consolidated Dispatch will coordinate with local emergency services including the Battle Creek Fire Department, Police Department, and Department of Public Works crews in order to address hazards and clear blocked roadways.
The City of Battle Creek stated that additional updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
