The City of Battle Creek has announced changes to several municipal services during the upcoming holiday season. The adjustments will affect city offices, public transportation, recreation centers, and waste collection from mid-December through early January 2026.

On Tuesday, December 16, City Hall will close temporarily from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for the annual employee holiday potluck. Regular business hours will resume before and after this period.

All administrative offices for the City of Battle Creek will be closed on Wednesday, December 24 and Thursday, December 25 in observance of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Offices will reopen on Friday, December 26 at their usual hours from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Ride Calhoun’s administrative offices are also scheduled to close on December 24 and 25. While bus services RC MAX (fixed-route), RC MOVE (paratransit), and RC FLEX (on-demand) will operate on December 24, these services will not run on December 25. Regular schedules resume on December 26.

The Full Blast Recreation Center is set to close both December 24 and December 25 for the holidays, reopening on Friday, December 26 with regular hours. It will also be closed again over the weekend of Saturday, December 27 and Sunday, December 28 before resuming operations Monday, December 29.

Republic Services plans to begin collections one hour earlier than usual on Wednesday, December 24 due to an early landfill closure but will complete all scheduled pickups that day. There will be no collections on Thursday, December 25; as a result, Thursday and Friday pickups that week are delayed by one day.

For New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day (Wednesday, Dec. 31/Thursday Jan.1), city administrative offices remain open on Dec.31 but close for Jan.1 in observance of the holiday; normal hours resume Jan.2.

Ride Calhoun follows a similar schedule: open Dec.31 but closed Jan.1 with bus services operating only Dec.31 that week; regular service resumes Jan.2.

Full Blast Recreation Center closes early at 3 p.m., Dec.31 and remains closed all day Jan.1 before returning to its standard schedule Jan.2.

Republic Services again begins collections one hour early Dec.31 because of an early landfill closure but completes all Wednesday pickups; there are no collections Jan.1 so Thursday/Friday pickups are delayed by one day that week.

Additionally, Republic Services offers curbside pickup for fresh Christmas trees between Monday, Dec.29 through Friday, Jan23.,2026 for residents who remove lights ornaments, and stands before placing trees at the curbside for collection during their regular garbage day.

“We hope that our neighbors will find time during the busy holiday season to be with family and friends,” said officials in a statement issued by the City of Battle Creek Communications Office.“We also thank our first responders and others who continue to work for our community during the holidays.”
