Battle Creek police investigate shooting that leaves one man critically injured

A 60-year-old man was seriously injured in a shooting early Saturday morning on Hancock Court in Battle Creek, Michigan. Police responded to the incident around 6 a.m., where they found the man with a gunshot wound to his chest.

Emergency responders from the Battle Creek Fire Department and LifeCare Ambulance provided medical care at the scene before transporting the victim to a local hospital. He is currently listed in critical condition.

According to investigators, the shooting took place inside a residence on Hancock Court. The resident of the home called 911 after the incident. Police determined that the victim, who lives nearby, had been visiting when he was shot.

Neighbors reported hearing a single gunshot shortly before emergency services were called.

Police believe this was an isolated event and have stated there is no ongoing threat to public safety.
