The Battle Creek Police Department, in cooperation with the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office and the Michigan State Police, will hold its annual Citizens Police Academy beginning in January. The program aims to engage business owners, community leaders, and residents interested in learning about law enforcement procedures and public safety initiatives from all three agencies.

The academy includes interactive sessions where participants can work with officers from special units, learn about tactics and use of force, and take part in scenario-based training. The initiative also encourages collaboration on strategies to improve public safety and foster trust between law enforcement and the community.

Sessions for the 2026 Citizens Police Academy are scheduled for January 7, 10, 14, 17, 21, and 24. Classes will be held at the Battle Creek Police Department located at 34 N. Division St., Battle Creek. To successfully complete the program, participants must attend at least 80 percent of the sessions. If any class is canceled due to weather conditions, makeup dates are set for January 28 and January 31.

Applicants are required to pass a background check before being accepted into the program. Space is limited; those interested are encouraged to apply as soon as possible through the provided application link on the City of Battle Creek’s official website (www.battlecreekmi.gov).
