Battle Creek police have arrested a 57-year-old man from Galesburg after he allegedly made violent threats toward a local school and its students on social media. According to authorities, the arrest took place at the suspect’s home on Thursday, February 19, with assistance from the Michigan State Police. The man was taken into custody for allegedly making threats to commit violence against students using a firearm.

Police said they were alerted to the threat on Wednesday, February 18, after community members reported seeing the post online. The post reportedly referenced a protest organized by a student group at the school. Officers quickly began investigating and identified the suspect.

The investigation is now complete. The police department stated it will continue working with school administrators to maintain safety for students and staff.

In a statement, the department said: “The department extends its sincere appreciation to the community members who reported what they saw. Their quick action played a critical role in keeping our schools safe. We appreciate you.”

Officials noted there are no additional details available at this time.
