Eight residents of Battle Creek completed the 2026 Citizens’ Police Academy in late January. The program, held annually by the Battle Creek Police Department in partnership with the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office and Michigan State Police, offers community members an inside view of law enforcement operations.

Participants included local business owners, community leaders, and other engaged residents. Over several sessions, attendees took part in interactive demonstrations and discussions with officers from multiple agencies. The academy included equipment overviews and a K-9 demonstration, which was noted as a highlight for many participants. The event concluded with a cake recognizing the accomplishments of the class.

“The city and our law enforcement partners thank each graduate for their time, curiosity, and commitment to learning more about how public safety works in Battle Creek,” according to officials involved with the program.

The Citizens’ Police Academy is designed to foster understanding between law enforcement and community members while providing insights into daily police work and broader public safety efforts.
