The City of Battle Creek announced on March 30 that weekly curbside yard waste collection will begin for the 2026 season on Monday, April 6, and continue through Friday, Dec. 4.

This service is available to residents within the city and is managed by Republic Services. The city said yard waste should be placed at the curb by 6 a.m. on residents’ regular collection day each week from April through December.

Residents are asked to prepare their yard waste properly. Leaves and grass must be bagged or placed in an accepted container. Branches should be bundled into lengths of four feet or shorter and tied; loose branches will not be collected. Accepted containers include two-ply paper yard waste bags (plastic bags are not allowed), up to 32-gallon containers labeled “Yard Waste Only” with a maximum weight of 50 pounds per container, or a 96-gallon cart available from Republic Services.

Items that cannot be included in yard waste pickup are plastic bags, soil, sod, rocks, and food waste—except for pumpkins during October and November.

The city has updated its website with detailed information about the yard waste service at battlecreekmi.gov/238/Yard-Waste. Officials encourage residents to take advantage of this program as it helps keep neighborhoods clean while supporting responsible disposal of organic materials.

For further questions about the program or specific requirements, residents can contact the City of Battle Creek at publicinput@battlecreekmi.gov or visit www.battlecreekmi.gov.
